The Signal Integrity Principles Hands-On Workshop will help you properly manage the effects of high-speed signals on today’s PCB designs.
Learn how to properly manage and mitigate the potential problems caused by high-speed signals on PCB layouts. Learn how to detect and prevent signal reflections and crosstalk on your next PCB design. Learn from our experienced instructor who has years of experience as a high-speed designer and signal integrity expert. This course is 20% lecture and 80% lab. You will be instructed on the basic engineering principles followed by hands-on labs using HyperLynx® where you will see the principle in action and learn techniques to minimize the adverse effects commonly caused by today’s high-speed signals.
PREREQUISITES
- Familiarity with PCB design concepts and a basic understanding of some of the potential design concerns related to today’s high-speed designs.
- Other courses: HyperLynxä SI/PI tool training or experience is useful, but not required.

PRIMARY COURSE TOPICS
You will learn how to
- Use simulation examples to study essential principles of signal integrity
- See the origin of many common signal integrity problems
- Explore design space and tradeoff analysis with virtual prototypes
- Plan trace impedance in a PCB stack up
- Reduce the effects of signal reflections with good termination on single-ended and differential traces.
- Prevent crosstalk
- Design robust power distribution networks
Course Outline
- Module 1 Impedance and stack-up, time delay, effects of I/O buffer
- Module 2 Reflections and Termination, signal propagation, noise, routing topologies, vias
- Module 3 Crosstalk, near-end and far-end signatures, cause, and avoidance
- Module 4 Differential Pairs, eye diagrams, differential and common signals, impedance, and termination
- Module 5 Losses, reflection, noise, and mode conversion
- Module 6 The Power Distribution Network, plane cavities, spreading inductance, impedance, cavity crosstalk
Prerequisites
- Familiarity with PCB design concepts and a basic understanding of some of the potential design concerns related to today’s high-speed designs.
