The Valor™ NPI for New Users course will help the user understand the structure of ODB++ data, plus where that data comes from. The course teaches the interface to many basic Valor NPI tools plus usage of the Valor™ Parts Library (VPL) for enhancing analysis results. Fabrication analysis and assembly analysis are covered as well as using PCB Layout tool addins to provide mechanisms for performing analysis earlier in the PCB design process. The user will also learn how to interpret the reported results from the analysis.

PREREQUISITES

Familiarity with concepts of PCB design and the process of PCB fabrication and assembly.

PRIMARY COURSE TOPICS

What you will Learn

  • The user interface to Valor™ NPI tools such as the Engineering Tool Kit (ETK), Manufacturing Risk Analysis (MRA), the BOM Manager, Netlist Analysis, CAM Compare, and the ODB++ Viewer
  • The structure of an ODB++ data Product Model
  • How to create an ODB++ Product Model from Xpedition™ Layout and Cadence™ Allegro
  • How to run Netlist Analysis to check for shorts opens, extra or missing nets, or to report intentional shorts
  • How to create a Bill of Materials (BOM), add Approved Manufacturer data, and Valor Parts Library (VPL) data
  • Enhancing the ODB Product Model with BOM information and VPL models
  • Running analysis from MRA, examining results from the analysis, and including issues in a report
  • Understanding of the Analysis Definition Manager and how it sets up Classification Sets to define analysis parameters and constraints
  • Performing fabrication and assembly analysis using Classification sets in MRA
  • Enabling “shift-left” practices to run Classification Sets earlier in the PCB design cycle using Valor add-ins for Xpedition Layout or Cadence Allegro

Throughout this course, extensive hands-on lab exercises provide you with practical experience using Valor NPI software. Hands-on lab topics include:

  • Generating ODB++ data from Xpedition™ Layout or Cadence™ Allegro
