Serving as an introduction to our Enterprise-Wide software solution, the aim of the class is to equip the attendee with a firm understanding of the basic use of Simcenter STAR-CCM+ for conducting multi-physics simulations.
Attendees will experience a gradual well-structured learning curve over a three day period that reflects the major processes developed in Simcenter STAR-CCM+. Each day we aim to have attendees using the software, hands-on, to begin their own simulations after instruction through tutorials and lectures. Using this structured approach, attendees will leave the training ready to address common numerical engineering challenges using Simcenter STAR-CCM+ comfortable in the knowledge that Siemens engineering support will be available to provide on-going technical support.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

The basic Simcenter STAR-CCM+ course is intended for engineers or analysts who are new to multi-physics simulation software, but it can also be used as refresher training for occasional users.

PRIMARY COURSE TOPICS

Day 1
During the first part of the day, we will discuss and present the conceptual elements of fluid flow simulation. Moving on to describe how these elements are represented in the workflow process of Simcenter STAR-CCM+. We will describe the architecture of the software and the advantages of the client-server approach and then provide introductory examples going from geometry import to review of simulation results, as well as an introduction to data analysis.
During the rest of the day until the end of the second day we will be using a heat transfer problem to follow the workflow process in more detail. From import to a first mesh, we will discuss outcomes and options.
Day 2
The second day continues the discussion of principles and strategies for efficient computational solving. We will introduce the different surface and volume meshing models which constitute the meshing pipeline in Simcenter STAR-CCM+. We will complete the lab on automatic meshing that includes an introduction to multi-domain meshing and mesh modification.
We'll wrap up the day with the analysis of the heat transfer problem with focus on whether simulation and engineering objectives were achieved. Various data analysis objects will be used to evaluate the solution including scenes and plots.
Day 3
The last day of the class will be used to consolidate the knowledge acquired over the first two days and to explore some advanced features through problem-oriented labs. In these cases, the examples will be used to reinforce the Simcenter STAR-CCM+ workflow process and introduce additional capability and productivity features, for example powerful field functions that allow refined control. Finally, the Learning Event material will introduce automation capabilities of the software that allow customization and simplification of processes. The day ends with a guide to find help and the different types of Learning Events in Siemens Digital Industry Software.
